Matt Graham, Director Environmental Operations; BNSF Railway
With over 20 years of experience navigating challenges in environmental management, Matt currently serves as Director Environmental Operations for BNSF Railway Company, the largest railroad in North America. Working closely with corporate and field staff his team is charged with ensuring environmental compliance at over 230 facilities across a network of operations in 28 states and 2 Canadian Provinces. Driving stewardship through a focus on continuous improvement his team relies on a risk based environmental management system to implement effective programs covering air, stormwater, Tier II, waste management, wastewater, and oil handling regulations.
Matt started his railroad career as a locomotive engineer prior to joining the Environmental Department at BNSF. Over the last twenty-four years he has held several positions in the Midwest, West Coast and at the corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, TX. Matt has been fortunate to manage a broad range of projects which include disciplines in remediation, permitting, engineering, real estate, hazmat response and project controls. Matt holds a Bachelor's of Science degree from the University of Nebraska as well as an MBA and has been an active member of several industry groups including the American Railway Development Association and the Association of American Railroads.
